Sunshine & Dates

Greetings Fellow Choristers

By now, you’ve found your preferred seat, sourced a bag big enough to tote your music folder, water container, and dry shoes, and if we have anything in common – lost and found your name tag a few times already. Congratulations – you’ve become member of this warbling tribe.

Make a buddy out of a co-tribe member so you can consult them for catch up purposes if you miss a rehearsal. United we stand, divided we fall.

The members-only page at hamiltonsings.ca continues to expand with auditory treats designed to aid your homework efforts. The recording of “One Voice” is meant to give you the mood of the song – the score we will actually learn contains a few variances. Speaking for myself, I find if I listen with my headphones on and sing into my cupped hands, I can practice without worrying about disturbing my housemates. I currently have two 8 week old puppies in the house who can sing a few octaves higher than I can, so avoiding a disturbance is big right now. Who knew poodles could do harmony? But their rhythm is definitely off . . . My aching head.

Speaking of singalongs, vocal group Sunshine Singers (non-affiliated with Hamilton Sings) is looking for individuals to participate in a monthly event at Baywoods Long Term Care facility at Main Street East and Victoria. On the last Wednesday of the month, from 6:00 pm till 7:30 pm, they lead a very casual singalong of popular tunes designed to encourage resident participation. Residents deeply appreciate the visits and all vocal abilities are welcome. The Sunshine Singers are meeting this Saturday after practice at HARRRP – for more info, ask myself, Brenda, at the front desk, or seek out Chez, that saucy South African gracing the tenor section.

Dates to remember:

  • Saturday November 2 – Wild Blueberries for Wild Choristers. Oxford Farm deluxe frozen wild blueberries arrive after practice. Order deadline is October 19, however we can manage some last minute orders up until October 26. Full payment required at time of order. Haley Reap (tenor) is the point person. $20/2kg bag, $120/6 bag case, the choir makes $9 a bag!
  • Saturday December 7 – End of term concert, details to follow.

In closing, I’d like to quote Stephen Sondheim (American composer/lyricist)

“If I cannot fly, let me sing.”

See y’all Saturday!

Co-chorister
