Hello everybody.
Last week’s rehearsal found us, by necessity, gathering in song in the basement level of the Sherman Boys and Girls Club. The acoustics were radically different, allowing for a special opportunity to hear each other in an altered way. The altos garnered applause with their part of “May You See Diamonds”, and everyone else seemed to come to the fore as well. Goes to show you – change is as good as a rest. Be advised that we’ve been assured that a speedy door repair is underway, so talk of having to find an alternative venue for our term concert has ceased. Yea!
Reminder that the seasonal whirlwind (vortex in my case, as I’m in the service industry) has begun and it would be awfully fine if you could find a warm body or two to volunteer for our end of term concert. We need door greeters, bake table attendants, decorators, and it would be awesome if everyone could attempt to bake something for the sale. Jennifer McConnell (alto) is the concert mistress, so please find her for any questions or concerns you may have. A bake sale item list will be made available this Saturday to ensure we don’t ALL make blueberry muffins.
Music tracks continue to pine for your attention on the choir members page at hamiltonsings.ca. Log on, listen, and learn your part so you don’t have to think to hard about it. Thinking is too much work. Keep in mind that attendance to the Nov 30th and Dec 7th rehearsals is mandatory if you wish to sing in the concert.
And on the heels of our victorious blueberry fundraiser initiative, I’m happy to report that last Saturday’s sheet music organization was a huge success. Many of you took the time to participate and the results were immeasurable – unless you can measure the time Susan Noakes, HS librarian, can now spend with her feet up, sipping some of her incomparable red current wine. Order has been achieved and the paper cuts minimal.
A quick reference calendar for those who continue to be disorganized. Who? Me? Ahem:
Saturdays Nov 16th, Nov 23rd, Nov 30th, and Dec 7th – final four rehearsals prior to our end of term concert on the evening of December 7th. The December 7th rehearsal is our “dress rehearsal” so wear sensible shoes and whatever makes you feel fabulous that evening. Attendance mandatory for Nov 30th and Dec 7th rehearsals for concert participants.
Saturday December 7th at 7pm – Light in the Night concert – $10 suggested at the door, $30 for a family of 4+, children under 10 free. Invite your family, friends, and people you deem lucky. We’ll meet for a warm up at 6pm and doors open to the public at 6:30.
Tuesday December 10th, evening, around 6pm. Short performance and group Christmas singalong for the residents of St. Elizabeth Retirement home, located on Rymal at Garth.
Please find below the link to a charming op ed piece written by HS director Sue Crowe Connolly, with the valuable co-authorship of Tony Carlson, as published this past Monday in the Hamilton Spectator. You should read it – cause you’re part of it!
Kindest regards,
