Words from Others

Hello dear choristers:

This update consists of few of my words but relies on the wise utterances of others.

From Co-conductor Hanna:

Take a listen to Falling – I made all four parts together so you can hear them. I’m encouraging you to listen – it’s pretty nice and good to have a frame work. You can view them on the Hamilton Sings web site.

This week we will be going over Solstice Carol, Ye Banks and Braes, and Dans les Chantiers. All fairly quickly so you may wish to review the recordings, and please take pleasure with our previous version of Solstice Carol to get re-familiarized before rehearsal. I’ll be putting a sign up sheet re: the November 12 No Coal in Your Stocking, Christmas Concert that Myke Hutchings is putting on at Laidlaw Memorial at 2PM. and if enough folks wish to do that we’ll go forward with it. We would sing just one song. Either Ye Banks and Braes or Solstice Carol. Here’s the link to Solstice Carol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_UiZHpWKv0

And now, a few words from Co-chorister (and stellar baker) Bill Nesbitt:

A winter tradition returns! Once again chorister Bill Nesbitt (moi) will be baking his delicious Newfoundland cookies and squares in support of the Choir. Act fast, these sell out quickly every year!

Each box will contain 13 pieces. The recipes are traditional favourites from Newfoundland:

• Lassy Mogs -soft, spicy gingerbread cookies with dates and nuts
• Date Crumbles – rich, buttery Newfoundland date squares
• Five Star Bars- chewy coconut bars topped in chocolate
• Nut Sandies- buttery shortbread snowballs with pecan pieces

They are nicely packaged and make a lovely gift if you have the will power not to eat them yourself! ( and they freeze well ) The original artwork label will feature a Newfoundland holiday scene.

Still just $20 a box, and all proceeds go to Hamilton Sings! Community Choir.

We are taking orders until November 26th or until 40 boxes have sold, which ever comes first. Orders will be available for pick-up at the December 3rd rehearsal.

Place your order by sending an e-transfer to treasurer.hamiltonsings@gmail.com (include your name, e-mail address and the word “cookies” in the message) Cash or cheque orders can be made in person with Bill at choir rehearsals.

Don’t delay- only 40 boxes are available, and they go fast!

More words from one of my favourite musicians, Jimi Hendrix:

“When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.”

And closing words from co-chorister and director Taylor Connelly:

“We’re not in high school anymore.”

See you Saturday.
